Reflecting and highlighting an issue that has never been talked about and has impacted South Africa on a social scale, political and economic. Showing and exploring the effects of this matter on our people and eventually our human behavior. I started thinking about and creating these characters in my mind which are present in our communities. Like A father who worked at a mine and has a family to feed and gets injured and is marginalized by this system . A mother who her husband is a bread winner and depends on the husband to support her and kids and he passes away or is injured and has to play two parental roles . An unsupervised adolescent who because of the absence of the father who needed to work at the mines to survive leaves the teenager to no choice but to join a gang. Also due to the countries economic uncertainty, instability and unequal opportunities I discovered a group of illegal miners called the zama zamas who work in toxic conditions to survive. I also started getting into families who leave near these mine dumps and the effects of radiation on their bodies and lifestyle. Also the ignorance and capitalist actions by companies who have been mining in our country For this collection I also looked at utilitarian clothing and what it means and how it has become part of our wardrobe due to the influence of this industrial magnitude .
